Welcome to the Loft Violin Shop web site. We have been dedicated to local students and musicians since 1976. "The Loft" provides exceptional stringed instruments, old world craftsmanship and the finest quality accessories and repairs for the beginner or professional. Our commitment and support to local music programs is the foundation of our business. We want to thank you for this opportunity to help advance the participation and enjoyment of music in Central Ohio.
How it all began
Started in 1976, The Loft Violin Shop traces its roots back to the Joseph Ricker and Sons shop in Columbus dating in the late 1800's. Brother Richard Schlub apprenticed in the Ricker before taking over "the next generation" with brother David, current owner of The Loft. Both Richard and David played with The Columbus Symphony at the time and identified the need for continuing quality craftsmanship and service the the string community.
David Schlub, the current owner and luthier of The Loft Violin Shop graduated from Bowling Green State University in Music Education before playing with the Columbus Symphony and opening The Loft Violin Shop with his brother. David still plays in other area orchestras including the Central Ohio Symphony Orchestra.
Our rental program has been providing quality instruments to students and schools for almost 30 years. Learning to play a stringed instrument can lead to lifelong involvement with music … whether it be in a dance band, a blue grass group, as a rock n’ roller or with a symphony orchestra. Learning from a qualified teacher on a first-rate instrument will enhance the students’ enjoyment and create a positive environment for artistic expression and musical appreciation.
The Loft is owned and operated by professional musicians, educators and craftsman. From the moment you walk in our workshop, you will understand our commitment to old world craftsmanship and fine stringed instruments. I encourage you to call me, the owner of “The Loft” if you have any questions. Our desire is to make your musical experience as rewarding as possible.
Cordially Yours,
David Schlub
